The long version
Today we are announcing the release of QuickPull v4 for OS 5.0+. This version is everything QuickPull <del datetime="2010-05-18T02:13:26+00:00">should have been</del> was meant to be from the beginning. In the Dark Ages of Battery Pulls, things were bad. Data was lost. Phones died. People even used to reboot their BlackBerry by hand (rofl?).

Then came a tiny little app with three tiny little buttons: Yes, No, and Schedule. But the Schedule button didn’t really work, so really all you had was ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. Two glorious, mutually exclusive choices. Things were so simple then They kind of remind me of some pills I took once.

But the people were confused. Where did these buttons come from? What did they mean? Should they press them… or should they instantly lock their phone and type in their password incorrectly 10 times? Well, luckily for you the story didn’t end there. We knew exactly what the people needed to solve this dilemma: more buttons!

Flash-forward 500 years (give or take) and today we are announcing the launching of the release of the new QuickPull v4 version. This version is so smart, so easy to use, you’d swear it was using you! It’s nothing less than a breakthrough in battery-pull technology. Some highlights include:

Fixes bug where QuickPull wouldn’t run automatically on newer OS5 releases. NOTE: Older OS5 releases still forever bugged. Try upgrading your OS if you have problems.

A wizard startup guide (think ‘Harry Potter’)!

A brand new graphic logo (not included in the app itself, see below)

Bugfixes (think RAID)

Other cool stuff only developers could appreciate (like the Matrix Oracle program)

And more!

Oh yeah, and this release was soo cool we even gave it its own domain name: getquickpull.com! Just go there from your BlackBerry… and clicky the appropriate link there and instant QuickPull-icationalyzerness. Go ahead, tell your friends! Seriously, go on. No really, if you want QuickPull v4 it’s the only way you are going to get it. So have fun! I’m too tired to write anything else! Except:

PLX use our Feedback Forum for any praise, ideas, bugs, or suggestions. Or our mirror here.

Oh and have fun you crazy things!

A new QuickPull beta version is no available OTA at http://tinyurl.com/35vg43z.

A new beta version (3.9.99.42) of QuickPull is now available for OS 5.0. This update is to primarily address the broken automated functionality in the recent OS 5.0 builds. This took a bit longer than we wanted to get out mainly due to the fact that we were in the middle of working on QuickPull v4 which has some significant enhancements over the current versions. Thus, this build also doubles as a preview of QuickPull v4.

Without further delay, the OTA: http://tinyurl.com/35vg43z

Note that this is a *beta* release. Bad things may happen to you for using this release. Prior to installing, I recommend you back up your device, then backup your PC with the backup of your device on it, then mail copies of those backups to your friends and family for safekeeping. Then you can install this beta version.

We will use this thread for discussion regarding this build: http://feedback.steelthorn.com/steelthorn/topics/quickpull_beta_3_9_99_42

Happy Pulling!

RIM bug prevents QuickPull from working in OS versions 5.0.0.400-5.0.0.710.

Many of you are familiar with QuickPull, our popular soft reset application that lets you reboot your BlackBerry phone. What many of you may not realize is that while QuickPull’s functionality is fairly simple-click a button to reset your device-it actually uses a very complex series of components working in unison in order to achieve this. It’s not so surprising then that QuickPull generates more support requests than all of our other products combined. It’s a complex app (underneath).

The BlackBerry operating system (OS) is also complex–and always changing. While OS 5.0 has been around for a little while now, there’s been a lot of kinks to work out, and you know what that means… leaked builds! Nearly 50% of our user base likes to dabble in leaked builds to try out the latest and greatest RIM has to offer. Unfortunately RIM does not always (ever?) take into consideration individual apps as they work hard to develop the next leak. Enter breakage.

That is the case with QuickPull (Free and Pro) on OS builds 5.0.0.400-5.0.0.710. An ugly bug in these OS versions prevent QuickPull from ever working. We’re not even sure how these OS versions got approved to become official releases, but we realize that even some of our more reserved upgraders may be affected by this problem. The only advice we can offer is to not upgrade above OS 5.0.0.400. The only known build above that to work with QuickPull is OS 5.0.0.711. Build 711+ appears to only be out/leaked for the Bold 9000 device at this time.

Now, inevitably many users will get the urge to reply to this post with messages like “My QP doesn’t work on OS 5.0.0.545. Please help me” or “bb not working halp plx” and we will feel a tingle of sympathy as we leave your comments in the unapproved state for eternity. So let’s avoid any possible heartache and use the support tab at the top if you need support. Our support team does NOT monitor these comments! We are hopeful that soon these series of builds will pass and the Dark Ages of BlackBerry sans QuickPull will end.

Q-U-I-C-K-P-U-L-L

On the eve of BlackBerry app-overload, when news apps were taking up 5MB of memory and you had to install 5 twitter apps in order to tweet from all your accounts, one app emerged and gave hope to BlackBerry-ians all across that galaxy.

Flash forward two eons, with over 1 million free-mem fighters, it was clear that a new level of app was needed to ensure rebel PROgress to even the furthest supercluster. The price for this freedom was high, though…as high as $3 in some currencies.

BUT THEN it dawned on the Steelthorn Alliance. This was not just a war against memory. This was a war on the very core residual capacitor components that kept their contacts, calendars, and photos safe. This was a war for the hearts and thumbs of all the BlackBerry-ians. And thus… QuickPull FREE was born…

QuickPull Free has the same features as the already popular QuickPull Pro, but is now ad supported and does not include technical suppport. Get it today from Mobihand.

Welcome to Steelthorn.com v2. That’s right, things actually happen around here! What? Oh, no… no QuickPull v3, AutoStandby update, StormLock feature additions, SMS support in MessageScheduler, or anything crazy like that… but other very important stuff has been going on… like redesigning a perfectly functional website into another perfectly functional one. But let’s be honest, the old one did suck! It was all, boring, and stuff. We should mention that the new site is, well, new. Thus there may be typos, glitches, bugs, or supermassive black holes of doom that cause your Mac Mini to catch fire and explode. But it is better, we promise.
